Daily Prayers

While Holy Transfiguration Monastery’s A Prayer Book for Orthodox Christians (Boston, 1995) provides a set of Morning Prayers, it provides no corresponding set of Evening Prayers; rather, it provides only the Service of Small Compline, which runs long for all but the most pious of Orthodox laity.

Below we offer a set of Evening Prayers of comparable scope, harmonizing the Monastery’s Morning Prayers with the Daily Prayers of the standard Greek Proseuchetaria. There exists, of course, a wide variety of Orthodox Daily Prayers across the many languages and traditions of the Church. This selection focuses on the prayers of the Church’s official texts, in the conviction that these, together with the Psalter, ought to form the foundation of every Orthodox Christian’s prayer life.
